Jaymeson’s Ride to Recovery, Powered by Community

“This too shall pass” is a phrase we’ve all clung to at some point—whether in the depths of grief,  the struggles of illness, or the weight of financial hardship. One universal truth is that we all face overwhelming challenges, sometimes one at a time, and other times they seem to pile on all at once. But, despite how many challenges we’re faced with, what can undeniably help us get through? Support, empathy, and love.

On September 15th, 2023, Jaymeson was 12-years-old when he and his family’s world shifted forever. What started as suspicious stomach migraines turned into a life-altering diagnosis: a Medulloblastoma tumor the size of a racquetball in the fourth ventricle of his brain. First being told to go to an ER in St. Cloud, MN, his family soon learned he needed specialized care at Children’s Minneapolis. Though an ambulance was recommended, they chose to make the drive together – finding a small sense of normalcy in the midst of chaos. Once there, doctors successfully removed the tumor, but the journey ahead would be anything but easy.

Jaymeson went on to endure Proton Beam radiation, chemotherapy, a severely compromised immune system, and the challenges of Posterior Fossa Syndrome, which affected his speech and motor skills. With relentless perseverance, he tackled physical, occupational, and speech therapy, inspiring everyone around him. But while Jaymeson fought each obstacle, his parents faced battles of their own.

Every day brought new challenges, both emotionally and financially. The weight of mounting medical bills, the inability to work full-time, navigating complex insurance systems, and the constant travel for treatment added layers of hardship. Yet, through love, determination, and unwavering support, Jaymeson’s family remains by his side, proving that no challenge is too great when faced together. Thanks to the generosity of Compass to Care and our donors, 21 trips have been funded to ensure Jaymeson and his family can get to and from his treatments without additional financial strain.

As if the burden of treatment wasn’t enough, Jaymeson and his family also faced the heartbreaking loss of two beloved pets—Millie, their Goldendoodle, and Lennie, Jaymeson’s cherished cat. But even in grief, Jaymeson continues to find hope, drawing comfort from his remaining furry companions: Charlotte (a Lab mix), Jynjer (a Golden Retriever), and three cats—Lynus, Jackie, and Freddy. Freddy holds a special place in Jaymeson’s heart.

Given to him by his doctor as a going-home present for his birthday, Freddy became a symbol of love and resilience, helping to heal the pain of losing Lennie while also serving as an additional avenue of support.

Beyond his diagnosis, Jaymeson is a kind-hearted, adventurous 13-year-old with a deep love for the outdoors. He’s the heart of his neighborhood, always the first to greet new neighbors, stopping for chats and tending to the community garden. He takes pride in caring for the plants, pulling weeds, watering, and harvesting fresh produce—generously sharing with elderly neighbors who can no longer garden themselves.

Growing up, Jaymeson continuously attended the MN ELKS Youth Camp, where his grandfather is the director. Here, he’s spent countless hours exploring trails and driving anything with wheels—especially golf carts. Owning one of his own has always been Jaymeson’s dream, and thanks to the incredible support of his community, that dream is finally coming true!

Green Acres Animal Rescue, where Jaymeson’s eldest sister Carissa has volunteered, and Brewed Gems have teamed up to raise funds for both animals in need and Jaymeson’s journey. An anonymous donor has generously gifted two golf carts—one for Jaymeson, and another to be raffled off, raising funds and awareness for animals in need. This incredible act of kindness exemplifies the immense community support that has surrounded Jaymeson throughout his battle.

Though this journey has been filled with challenges, Jaymeson’s unwavering spirit and the love of those around him continue to push him forward. His story is a testament to resilience, hope, and the power of community. One day, when this too does pass, Jaymeson and his family will look back and remember how far they’ve come—how love, strength, and determination carried them through even the darkest days.
